Through our Member Round Table discussions,
we’ve identified three industry improving projects being resourced by AFAB and its members.

    Industry improving projects

    Commercial

We are proud to present the State of Play Report 2024, launched on 3 September at the Fine Food Australia expo in Melbourne.
This milestone underscores AFAB’s mission to establish a data-driven
    foundation for the foodservice industry,
empowering businesses with actionable insights to drive
    strategic decisions and elevate performance.

The third State of Play Report forms the cornerstone of our 'Commercial' project, supporting transformative initiatives in sustainability,
workforce development, and supply chain resilience. By
addressing critical challenges like labour shortages and supply chain optimisation,
    it delivers
invaluable intelligence to strengthen our sector.

AFAB remains committed to enhancing access to high-quality, standardised data, advancing our advocacy efforts,
growing membership, and fostering collaboration across the foodservice industry.

    Attraction and Retention

Our second initiative, Attraction and Retention, tackles the pressing issue of labour shortages in the foodservice sector through advocacy,
    best-practice guidelines, and awareness campaigns.
We’ve hosted numerous Women in Foodservice events, focusing on empowerment,
    leadership, and
innovation. Our recent Brisbane event, 'Rise Together - Empowering Women in Foodservice' included a Brisbane markets tour
and discussions on negotiation, overcoming barriers, and supportive
workplaces. We also co-hosted an International Women’s Day breakfast
    this year with Miller Leith,
focusing on workplace policies and HR’s role in fostering diversity and inclusion.
In collaboration with founding member Miller Leith, we’re also sharing insights
from their 2024 FCMG & Retail
    Employment Insights & Salary Guide.

With input from over 1,100 participants, including 200+ FMCG and
Retail professionals, the survey highlights critical areas such as job satisfaction,
    workplace
    flexibility, and skill development opportunities.
Released in May 2024, this guide is a valuable tool for understanding
employee expectations and enhancing organisational appeal.

    Sustainability

Reducing food waste within the foodservice sector will benefit businesses, decrease environmental impact, and is crucial for Australia to meet its objective of halving food waste by 2030. Sustainability, an AFAB initiative, is proud to support the development of End Food Waste Australia's food waste reduction resources. This project, resourced by AFAB Members, focuses on reducing food waste through government-funded End Food Waste Australia projects, helping foodservice businesses achieve their sustainability goals.
